This year marked the first annual DADSTOCK and next years the plans are for a National Event.<br /><br />2007<br /><br />The morning started out with the weather picture perfect for a day relaxation and fun. By 10:00 a.m. I had the coolers stocked with ice and beer and some food already cooking. The final touches outside were done and the signs were out advertising the location. At about 10:45 I made the final arrangements for one of our East coast friends to be picked up at the train and the day was ready to begin. Having a bunch of guys coming over to my home that I never met was a rather nervous experience. A little before noon our friend Woodchuck arrived in his truck with plenty of goodies and of course his Chain Saw equipment and logs to do a demonstration. Before I knew it the guys were rolling in and the beer was arriving and flowing like a Golden River of goodness. Our Friend <span style="font-weight: bold;">Indy</span> brought up a KEG of HOMEBREW!!!<br /><br />The KEG<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp1.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RohBdlqVlBI/AAAAAAAAAJs/G-Z8gl3jkq4/s1600-h/THEKEG.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 275px; height: 366px;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RohBdlqVlBI/AAAAAAAAAJs/G-Z8gl3jkq4/s320/THEKEG.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5082384156069303314" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">Manly Task # 1 Done... (Beer Flowing)</span><br /><br />After relaxing a little in the back it was getting close to being time for the main demonstration. I went around front to see Woodchuck setting up the logs and he was making sure all the safety precautions were taking place. He was also chatting with a neighbor of mine that was extremely interested in seeing WC at work. Well at this time the mail carrier was in distress having a flat tire a few houses down and no way to get help from the post office. So as any good Stay At Home Dad would do I grabbed a group of guys and we went for the assist. Mopar-Daddy the car guy of the group jumped right in and had her on the road in no time.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Manly Task # 2 Done... (Changed Tire for Woman Stranded)</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><br /></span>By the time the tire was done Woodchuck was ready to do take a log and make lumber!<object height="350" width="425"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/P-Gr5LdCJ_o"><param name="wmode" value="transparent"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/P-Gr5LdCJ_o" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" height="350" width="425"></embed></object><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RogzV1qVk-I/AAAAAAAAAJU/sce1tJ-xXZQ/s1600-h/DADSTOCK074.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 408px; height: 305px;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RogzV1qVk-I/AAAAAAAAAJU/sce1tJ-xXZQ/s200/DADSTOCK074.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5082368629762528226" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />After this amazing demonstration of skill and power tools we were all in awe... (CHAINSAWS!)</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><br /></span>After manly task number 3 we all went to the back to have some snacks, beer and enjoy talking to one another.<br /><br />Relaxing in the Back<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp1.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RohBzlqVlCI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/5LvHq6waYEc/s1600-h/DADSTOCK071.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RohBzlqVlCI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/5LvHq6waYEc/s320/DADSTOCK071.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5082384534026425378" border="0" /></a>More Fun and Laughs<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RohCJ1qVlDI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/LrKuTRtC3-A/s1600-h/DADSTOCK072.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RohCJ1qVlDI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/LrKuTRtC3-A/s320/DADSTOCK072.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5082384916278514738" border="0" /></a>The good times kept coming and the beer kept flowing...<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">The Beer...</span><br /><br />Indy's Home Brew (see Keg) Biggest Hit<br />Goose Island 312 (Possibly official Beer of Dadstock) Big hit...<br />Fat Tire<br />Dos Equis<br />Sol<br />Trader Joe's Vienna<br />Trade Joe's Bavarian<br />JW Dundees (Pale Ale and Honey Brown)<br />Leinenkugels Berry Weiss (Hmmm Trevor) Biggest Smile and Man Card Jokes...<br />Mothership Wit<br />Sam Smiths Oatmeal Stout<br />Killians Red<br />Warsteiner<br />Bud Lite (Hmmm HL)<br />Miller Lite (Hmmm Neighbor)<br /><br />Finally it was time to get the food rolling. There were burgers over fire, chicken Wing, smoked pork, guac, salsa, chips, fresh berries, two bean dishes, Polish and Kraut, Fruit Salad (Yummy Yummy) Taco Ring, fresh greens... There was enough food to feed an army or a group of Stay At Home Dads released into the wild for a day.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Manly Task # 4 (Food over Fire)<br /></span><br />As the food coma started to set in the conversations changed from Saws and Beer to Family and Household chores. The sight of a group of men sitting around drinking beer and talking about C-Sections, Potty Training, Laundry and kids music had to be interesting to say the least. My wife was rather amused by the different conversation topics. So it was time to Start a fire...<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp3.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RohCoFqVlEI/AAAAAAAAAKE/TAeTvy2Vnhw/s1600-h/IMG_1076.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RohCoFqVlEI/AAAAAAAAAKE/TAeTvy2Vnhw/s320/IMG_1076.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5082385435969557570" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Manly Task # 5 (Fire For Warmth)<br /><br /></span><span style="font-weight: bold;">The Age of reason... </span><br /><br />As were were all talking and having a good time the topic of our ages came up. The youngest was 26 and the oldest was 42. The range of dads was rather wide for the small group we got together.<span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><br /><br /></span>So it is now time to met the people at the first Annual Dadstock...<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RohA31qVlAI/AAAAAAAAAJk/waV1trApR2s/s1600-h/GroupShotGuessWho.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 394px; height: 295px;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RohA31qVlAI/AAAAAAAAAJk/waV1trApR2s/s320/GroupShotGuessWho.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5082383507529241602" border="0" /></a><br /><ol><li>Howard L.</li><li>Woodchuck</li><li>Mopar-Daddy</li><li>Big Jake</li><li>Trevor57</li><li>ME</li><li>Stretch</li><li>Cubfan</li><li>Sao</li><li>Indy</li><li>Jeffus</li><li>Cjbart</li><li>Steve.S</li></ol>The beer kept flowing the laughs kept coming and a great time was had by all. The afternoon slowly became night and everyone relaxed and enjoyed time with a group of new friends. At about midnight the party was ending... It was July 1st and the first DADSTOCK was over...<br /><br />DADSTOCK... For All Stay At Home Dads...<br /><br />Thanks for the Successful First Annual DADSTOCK!!! I am happy to say I made a wonderful group of new friends and hope to continue making more friends as we plan more and more DADSTOCK Events!!!<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"></span><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"></span>A Man Among Mommieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01531856911420553202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7652294847549235673.post-77743397726377156782007-06-20T19:11:00.000-07:002007-06-20T19:24:44.811-07:00DADSTOCK to become ANNUAL EVENT!Well after seeing the interest in my little event I am looking into making it an annual event. I will begin to look into some sponsors and maybe even plan some specific activities. With this I am also looking into possibly doing a bunch of regional events throughout the year. <br /><br />Some other DADSTOCK ideas...<br /><ul><li>Annual Large Get Together</li><li>Monthly or Bi-Monthly Get Together</li><li>National DADSTOCK day. Groups of Dads organize for a one day event at different locations across the country. This way everyone can get involved!<br /></li><li>CORPORATE SPONSORS</li><li>T-Shirts and other cool items. (Window stickers, Stroller tags...)</li><li>FAMILY EVENT DAYS</li><li>Family Vacation!!! (Cruise, Disney, Resorts, Camping...)</li></ul>So the planning starts and maybe just maybe this could become something really big!!!<br /><br />At Home Dads Unite!A Man Among Mommieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01531856911420553202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7652294847549235673.post-84855093673645729162007-06-17T10:55:00.001-07:002007-06-20T21:27:17.630-07:00DADSTOCK<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RnV1qZRmk5I/AAAAAAAAAI4/pax0HYNpru8/s1600-h/dadstock.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_9FCjDIqOwfE/RnV1qZRmk5I/AAAAAAAAAI4/pax0HYNpru8/s400/dadstock.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5077093526129775506" border="0" /></a><br />Well I have been organizing a "Dads" day for At Home Dads to get together, Eat good food and of course drink some good beer. This would give us all a chance to sit around and have a good time without having to chase children around. It is very difficult for dads in this situation to make new friends and I hoped this would be a start.<br /><br />My original plan was to get a few local dads together for burgers and beer. Well this has begun to snowball into a larger "Event" As I discussed this with a few dads the term "DadStock" came up so that is the event name. Now a local dad has created a poster for the event. (Thanks big_jake)<br /><br />Well the numbers of dads keep increasing and what started as a local IL dad get together has now included a few more states...<br />IL, WI, IN, NJ, MA... WOW!!!<br /><br />For All The At Home Dads Out There!!!<br /><br />See the mention in the <a href="http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/newssun/news/430551,5_1_WA16_MRMOM_S1.article">News Sun</a>...A Man Among Mommieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01531856911420553202noreply@blogger.com
